Are A.D.H.D and the Internet Connected?

It is my belief that the Internet can definitely contribute to a diagnosis of A.D.H.D (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)?  At least in my case!

First let me clarify that I am not a psychologist nor do I put myself out there as one when I take part in local radio or TV segments.  That being said I will be asking one (my lovely wife) to get her opinion as soon as she returns.  I may even interview her for another blog.

The problem which I find presenting itself usually goes like this:  Today while I was trying to relax I picked up one of the 5 or 6 books on social media, marketing etc. that I have purchased over the past 3 or so months.  Then it hits me.  I realize that of these highly recommended books I have never finished any of them.

This is what usually happens.  I am perusing the internet and reading one of my favorite Bloggers, and they happen to mention a book that could help me with my social media problems.  So I make a note of the book and author and tuck the note away in my wallet.  Then the next time I am in B & N I look up the book and read the cover excitedly, make the purchase and head for home.

Here is what happens next.  The time arrives when I can sit down uninterrupted for a few minutes and read my new book.  I make it through the first chapter and the author of this book recommends another one that deals with another marketing problem that I have experienced.  I make a note of the title and author and you know the rest.  My mind is now on this second book and the cited problem.  So I sit the recently purchase book aside, and promise myself I will come back to it the next day.

Now the cycle repeats itself and I am sitting down with my newest purchase.  You can probably guess what happens now.

Is this just me or is it the same with others and the internet.  The internet has conditioned us with almost instant gratification, and we happily jump from one topic to the other without actually reading more than 5 or so minutes or over 140 characters.  Have you noticed that most “video experts” recommend that your videos be no longer than 3 to 5 minutes because the average viewer will not last much longer unless the subject matter is fantastic.

So I would love to have your thoughts on this topic.  Do you think it’s just me or are you being affected in the same way?

Thanks for helping me with my little research project.  By the way my wife has taken away my B & N discount card and vows to only return it when I have completely finished reading my earlier purchases.

I look forward to your input.
